GC-C −/− mice have an increased load of C. rodentium compared to GC-C +/+ but are still able to clear the infection. A: Increasing numbers of C. rodentium were detected in stool from GC-C−/− mice such that by day 10 there were significantly greater numbers of C. rodentium present relative to GC-C+/+. Note that both genotypes were able to clear the infection by day 20. Each time point consisted of groups of 3–26 mice. Solid line represents median value. Dotted line indicates limit of detection (500 CFU/g stool). Samples below limit of detection were arbitrarily given a value of 100. B: Representative photomicrographs of sections of distal colon of infected GC-C−/− and GC-C+/+ mice labeled with LPS specific antibody (green) exhibit similar bacterial localization at day 10 p.i.
