From: Breath test using 13C methacetin does not seem to be useful in the assessment of liver function in girls with anorexia nervosa: a case control study

A. Restriction of energy intake relative to requirements leading to a significantly low body weight in the context of age, sex, developmental trajectory, and physical health.

B. Intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, or persistent behaviors affecting weight loss even though underweight.

C. Disturbance in the way in which one’s body weight or shape is experienced, undue influence of body weight or shape on self-evaluation, or denial of the seriousness of the current low body weight.

Atypical anorexia nervosa (AAN) – criteria B and C are met (fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, disturbance in the way in which one’s body weight or shape is experienced) and there is a significant weight loss, but the individual’s present weight is within or above the normal range for age and sex.
